Guidance on reporting of spatial data 2010-03-22 creation See the referenced specification true In 2003, two sets of inland RBD boundaries were created using a cartographic method (from existing spatial catchment data) and a DTM (from the topographic data). Areas of discrepancy between these two boundaries were checked in the field by Environmental Protection Agency Hydrometric Teams. The teams also verified areas that were assumed to be correct. Topographically correct RBD boundaries were generated. The outer boundary of the RBD is defined as 1 Nautical Mile offshore from the national baseline. This includes all coastal and transitional waters. Boundary lines between RBD areas were drawn directly out to sea from the end of the RBD Boundary. This is the process recommended by the WFD. RBD Polygon files were generated from the river basin boundaries, the outer coastal water boundaries and the lines drawn to split the RBD areas. This is as required for the purposes of the WFD. In some areas the outer RBD 1 nautical mile coastal boundary has changed to reflect the decision to include all islands within 1 Nautical Mile of the Low Water Mark. At Youghal Bay, the RBD boundary was moved northwards to avoid the splitting of the Youghal Bay Water Body. This affects the SERBD and SWRBD. At Donegal Bay (Erne), the RBD boundary was moved southwards to avoid the splitting of the Donegal Bay (Erne) Water Body. This affects the WRBD and NWRBD. The RBD data was released in 2004. It has not changed since then. As this is a baseline reporting units dataset no regular updates are expected. Spatial Accuracy: The actual shape of the IRBDs is reflected in their geometry. The IRBDs include a number of river catchments and extend seaward for 1 Nautical Mile from the National Baseline Thematic Accuracy: thematic accuracy is assured, all RBD code and name attributes are correct. Currency: Geometry from the 1:50k OS Discovery Series, published in 1998, (I)RBD Boundaries within the ROI were checked throughout the year 2003 Logical Consistency: The dataset meets the topological requirements set out in Guidance Document number 22: Support for Reporting of RBMP, Guidance on reporting of spatial data.
