Guidance on reporting of spatial data 2010-03-22 creation See the referenced specification true In 2002-2003 high water mark and low water mark polyline geometry from a 1:50,000 cartographic source (Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSI) vector Discovery Series lines) was used along with supplementary large scale OSI high and low water mark data, territorial boundary data from the River Basin District delineation and expert knowledge to delineate coastal water polygons. The Typology for Transitional and Coastal Waters was developed on the basis of a research project "A proposed Typology for the UK and Republic of Ireland", published by SNIFFER in April 2003 (Rogers et al., 2003) The scheme uses the System B (Alternative Classification) approach. The Typology scheme uses the obligatory factors of Latitude and Longitude, tidal range and salinity (common to both Transitional and Coastal Waters) along with the optional wave exposure factors for coastal Waters. This scheme was considered to give the most ecologically relevant differentiation possible. The Typology consists of a total of 12 Coastal WaterTypes, of which 5 occur in the waters of the Republic of Ireland. Spatial Accuracy: data mapped from 1:50000 source along with supporting data from raster 1:10650 maps and River Basin Districts polygons. Thematic Accuracy: Coastal Water body attributes are based on type criteria originating from the WFD System B (alternative classification) typology. Salinity, tidal and exposure data was collected from experts via field survey experience. Currency: The data was created in 2003 according to 1998 data on high and low water marks and RBD boundaries defined in 2003. Logical Consistency: The dataset meets the topological requirements set out in Guidance Document number 22: Support for Reporting of RBMP, Guidance on reporting of spatial data.
