Guidance on reporting of spatial data 2010-03-22 creation See the referenced specification true In 2002-2003 geometry from a cartographic source (Ordnance Survey Ireland vector Discovery Series water lines) was corrected (with a DTM as input) to create hydrologically correct river lines data. This data was attributed with a unique code for each segment (confluence to confluence) and a river name where a name was visible at 1:50,000. Some local names were also applied from the EPA monitoring program stations list. This River Segments layer was used as the base geometry for the River Water Bodies polylines. River segments were grouped into distinct units, which fall into one of 12 types following a System B typology under the Water Framework Directive. ArcView Avenue processing was used with a 20m resolution DTM to create catchment polygons for each river water body line. River water bodies with catchments less than 10 km2 were not delineated as discrete water bodies. These generally comprised the 1st order and some 2nd order streams in the upper reaches of catchments. However, these river stretches are part of the catchment area of the next downstream river water body and in this way integrated into the Article 5 characterisation and risk assessment. Coastal streams with catchments less than 10 km2 were also not delineated. Spatial Accuracy: data mapped from a 1:50000 source. Thematic Accuracy: River Water body attributes are based on type criteria originating from the WFD System B typology. Altitude data came from a 20m resolution DTM. Geological categories came from Geological Survery Ireland source data. Size of catchments is based on catchment data interpolated from a 20m resolution DTM. Currency: Geometry from the 1:50k OS Discovery Series, published in 1998. Logical Consistency: The dataset meets the topological requirements set out in Guidance Document number 22: Support for Reporting of RBMP, Guidance on reporting of spatial data.
