Guidance on reporting of spatial data 2010-03-22 creation See the referenced specification true The legislation governing the quality of bathing waters is set out in the Quality of Bathing Waters Regulations, 1992 (S.I 155 of 1992) and amendments, which transposed the EU Directive 76/160/EEC concerning the quality of bathing water. There are a total of 131 bathing water sites in Ireland, of which 122 are seawater and 9 are freshwater lakes. The Lake Water Bodies layer was used as a source for the 9 freshwater lake bathing areas. For seawater, in 2004, each Local Authority in Ireland was asked to delineate the stretch of beach that they deemed to be the extent of the bathing area for that that location. The resulting polylines are combined with the freshwater lake polygons to yield the areas protected for recreational waters. Spatial Accuracy: freshwater lakes polygons are from a 1:50000 source, seawater stretches were validated by Local Authorities using 1:50000 raster reference maps Thematic Accuracy: Bathing water names and locations are as per the annual EPA Bathing Water Quality report. Protected area codes are unique incremental numbers. Currency: Data was validated in 2004 and bathing water locations have not changed since then. Logical Consistency: The dataset meets the topological requirements set out in Guidance Document number 22: Support for Reporting of RBMP, Guidance on reporting of spatial data.
