In 2005 the total number in Sweden was 1332 compared to 3023 in 2010. The boundaries of a few groundwater bodies have been adjusted since 2005, but the identification numbers are kept unchanged in the revision. The groundwater bodies do not cross the national border. The groundwater bodies are delineated using hydrogeological data from the Geological Survey of Sweden. The original hydrogeological data represent geological units with different potential water abstraction capacity (SGU serie Ah, at scale 1:250,000, >25 litres/second and SGU serie An, at scale 1:50,000, > 1 litre/second), aggregated into groundwater bodies. The main groundwater bodies are located within shallow alluvial deposits and a few in sedimentary and crystalline rocks. Detailed historic data management are missing for the individual groundwater bodies in the dataset.
